America has produced some great doctors, not only in relation to patient care but also in the relation of finding cures for many diseases. Some of these famous doctors have gone on to be awarded the Noble prize for their outstanding work.

Here we can see a few of those doctors:

Charles Horace mayo is the first in our list. He was the main founder of the world famous Mayo clinic which has we all know is a non- profit medical organization that is known the world over.

This famous clinic has its headquarters based in Rochester which can be found in Minnesota.

Keeping it in the family we now look at Charles’s oldest child who was William James Mayo. William was another of the founders of the world famous Mayo clinic. William joined his father at his private clinic after he finished his studies in the 1880’s. This private clinic later went on to become the famous Mayo clinic.

Next there is the man regarded as the modern medicines father, one William Osler Abbott. Abbott’s claim to fame was the invention of the Miler-Abbot tube.

You will have probably heard of the next doctor that I am about to mention as he was a famous pediatrician that also wrote books. Benjamin Spock was his name and inn1946 he wrote a book entitled “Baby and child care”. He did a lot of studying on child care and termed it psychoanalysis.

Jonas Salk was another American Doctor famous for discovering the vaccine for polio. This son of a Russian/Jewish immigrant went on to research many other viruses too.

Lastly there was Elliot P Joslin who was well known for his study of diabetes. He formed the self help diabetes program in which he used to inform his patients about his knowledge of the disease. He later went on to form the famous Joslin Diabetes Center.
