Many eye care products and services are available to improve your vision and eye health. However, each is effective only when used properly and in the right circumstances. Officially launched in June of 2002 at the ASCRS’ Annual Symposium and Congress, the ESEC was created to help patients make informed decisions about undergoing laser eye surgery. In early 2003, the ESEC came under the administration of the ASCRS Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization with a mission that includes public education on eye care issues, ophthalmic research, and supporting charitable eye care programs in the third world.
The success story began when Russell Ambrose founded Optimax in response to the enthusiasm shown by London teaching hospitals about the amazing results of laser eye surgery. Optimax was one of the first private clinics to offer laser vision correction and Russell was the first Optimax patient, never having to wear glasses or contact lenses since.
Optometrists Network is a network of interconnected patient education and optometric web sites which educate the public about visual health and unique aspects of optometric care. Our public health mission is supported by our Members who are licensed Doctors of Optometry. Optometrists Network began in 1996 when its flagship web site vision3d.com was published on the Web. One month after its launch, vision3d.com won the Internet Medical Site of the Week Award and was receiving over 10,000 visitors a month. Visitor traffic has continued to grow ever since.
