Shingles is also known as herpes zoster, it is a resurfacing of the chicken pox virus that had remained in the body after you had chicken pox during your childhood. It can start on any part of the body, in a small area. It starts on one portion of the body in the form of rash. The disease may start anywhere on the body, but eventually it reaches the face and when you have shingles on face, it really is very painful. When it starts on the face initially, some suppose it to be a bug bite.

Before discussing about whether Shingles are contagious let’s give a short description about Shingles. This is a disease commonly identified as Herpes Zoster. It is a different type of infection caused by virus infecting our central nervous system. The most common symptoms are skin rash which are very painful followed by blisters concentrated in few area inside our body, especially in a stripe. The blisters are transformed into scabs with the Shingles attact; it is at this point that Shingles becomes contagious.

People having Shingles often suffer from severe pain for prolong period much before the period the red rashes appear to the time the rash are finally healed. Some complication of this kind experienced by patients is described as post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).
