The Revision Nose Job

Nose jobs, technically known as “rhinoplasty”, is one of the most popular surgeries available today, because of the amount of people who wish to change their noses due to cosmetic or functional purposes. Problems in the nose can be caused by genetics, or physical trauma, and these can be fixed by surgery. But because sometimes people just immediately get rhinoplasty without researching, they may end up needing a revision nose job after.

Today, technology had advanced so much that rhinoplasty has a very high success rate, and created a whole industry on its own, one that even now includes male rhinoplasty surgery. But this doesn’t, by any means, show that rhinoplasty is a perfect procedure, because statistics show that up to around 15% of all rhinoplasties done will need fixing. And the reasons why these rhinoplasty procedures will need fixing vary greatly.

Most modern surgeons will actually be able to give the client a a sneak preview of what the final results of the surgery will be. But because there’s no actual way to know, until the procedure is actually over and the recovery period is complete, some clients realize once the bandages and swelling are gone, that the end result isn’t to their liking. This is when revision needs to be done.

Sometimes, revision is done because of physical problems that arose from previous rhinoplasties, and it is revision rhinoplasties that tend to be most difficult, because damage done from the previous operation may become bigger if the revision is done wrong. When this happens, the damage may not just be physical, but psychological and emotional as well. And it is this combination of physical, emotional, and psychological damage that can prove to be very painful.

Because the risk from revision surgery is greater, it is very, very important to make sure that the surgeon chosen is the very best and most reliable. This is especially because revision surgery can’t be done by just any surgeon. It is important to do as much research as possible first.
