There are numerous people who earn a great living on a Registered Nurse salary. Nurses can be paid well, and deserve every penny of what they earn. We put our lives in their hands on a daily basis. State requirements are stringent to both become and stay a nurse. As with most professionals, educational requirements are important for those looking to enter the nursing field. It’s obvious to see that this will be an ever expanding profession for some time to come, we need quality people to fill the role.
Employment for nurses is expected to continue to grow by twenty two percent continually for the next eight to ten years. Therefore, by 2018 this country will need in excess of half a million additional nurses on staff. This is good news for a struggling economy and unemployment raging out of control. Whether your considering a new career or entering the workforce for the first time, if you put in the time and effort, this move will prove rewarding in an economy that has increasing unemployment.
Less experienced and newer nurses earn about 43,000, while the more tenured professionals can take home an annual salary of approximately 93,000. The majority of registered nurses are generalists and work in public and private hospitals. Nurses working in hospitals can expect to earn an average of about 67,000 per year.
After the general medical and hospital surgical nurses are the nurses that work in doctors offices. Working in private practice can have its reward, and as far as salary is concerned, the earning power is about the same as hospital nurses at about 67,000. RN’s that chose to work with the elderly, specifically in the home health care portion of the industry, will on average earn about 63,000 yearly. Maybe surprising to most, but the RN’s who chose to work in nursing home facilities tend to earn the least, with annual salaries of about 59,000. If you’re interested in outpatient care, you can earn an average salary of 65,000.
These income levels are very good and most people can live quite nicely. At the same time, there are other areas in health care that offer even a greater income. Equipment and supplies can be quite interesting and has great earning power at an average annual salary of over 77,000. Finally, maybe not surprising, a nurse in Government at the Federal level in the executive branch can earn about 78,000 per year.
Although newly certified nurses are hired every day, the need will continue to grow into the future. Many areas around the U.S. still need many more qualified and quality nurses. If you are thinking about becoming an RN, now is the time to do it. If you can see yourself caring for others and realize the type of gratification that comes with, then you can benefit from the current boom in nursing.
An RN can earn a higher salary than other nurses in the profession, even though many of the duties are the same. Although very close, a LPN can achieve certification with slightly less eduction requirements.
Although the responsibilities are somewhat similar, an RN salary is typically higher than that of other nursing positions. An LPN requires a lesser degree of education and certification.
